Lowe, who is currently serving as a Visiting Fellow at the Neubauer Collegium, is one of 29 MacArthur Fellows participating in Toward Common Cause.

He gained international recognition with his innovative “social sculptures,” which tap local sources of cultural and financial capital to help communities imagine new possibilities for themselves. Lowe has initiated arts-driven redevelopment projects in several U.S. cities, including Project Row Houses in Houston, translation: Vicory Medow in Dallas, and Victoria Square Project in Athens Greece. His work has been exhibited at Houston's Contemporary Arts Museum and Museum of Fine Arts; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea; and the Venice Architecture Biennale; among other venues. He is currently serving as a Professor of Interdisciplinary Practice at the University of Houston and was named the 2020 Texas Artist of the Year by Art League Houston.

To mark the May 31 Centennial in Tulsa, Lowe organized a public exhibition called the Greenwood Art Project. Supported by a $1 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, it features 28 projects by Tulsa based artists and created a platform for the city’s residents to reflect on the history of Greenwood and the Tulsa Massacre.
